Know the right statistics and understand your data analysis.
“Thank you for this answer! It has saved me from many more hours of fruitlessly searching for something I wasn’t even sure how to search for! I will look into those resources and may consider the bootstrapping method.”
– Jean Pesola, Statistically Speaking member
What struggles do you have analyzing your research data?
Hi, I’m Karen Grace-Martin, your statistics mentor.
I’ve been supporting researchers like you through their statistical planning, analysis, and interpretation since 1997.
Now imagine that instead of the struggle, you had a framework for knowing what analyses are out there and how to learn them.
Imagine whenever you have a question, you could ask the Statistically Speaking mentors, statisticians who LIVE this stuff and know exactly what to recommend.
AND you had high quality stats trainings from mentors you trust.
How much time, money, and stress would that save you?
On second thought… don’t answer that. Instead, keep reading!
What is Statistically Speaking?
Statistically Speaking is the #1 statistics skills-building program where researchers like you can build confidence in statistics through ongoing learning and support.
Led by Karen Grace-Martin, Statistically Speaking empowers you to finally understand statistics in a way that makes YOU a better researcher.
“Not only are Analysis Factor staff knowledgeable and credentialed, bringing great theoretical understanding to quantitative empirical research, but they are practicing professionals who understand the challenges of actually undertaking research projects in the field… I have no doubt that the value I bring to my university through my work has been enhanced tremendously as a result of my membership in The Analysis Factor.”

Each month, you can attend the featured training webinar live or get access to a new software tutorial. Of course, the session is recorded and available to stream on demand as long as you’re a member.
All members get immediate access to our complete collection of more than 120 Stat’s Amore Trainings and are guided to the ones they need.
“Just wanted to thank you for your help in the webinar last month. I had some questions about mean reversion – I seemed to understand it less the more I thought about it. Anyway, we talked it through in the webinar, and it greatly helped my understanding of the topic.”
– Paul Grayson, Statistically Speaking member
Weekly Live Q&A Webinars
Every week, you have access to multiple Q&A sessions where you can get the benefit of expert insight into your specific statistical challenges, questions, and issues — in a private, supportive environment.
We know it can be hard to ask statistical questions. It seems like you’re either greeted with a blank stare (“I have no idea what you’re talking about…”) or a superior smirk (“You don’t know that?!”).
But our Statistically Speaking mentors love to help smart researchers like you understand the finer points of their data, and what it all means. So we encourage you to ask away!
The live, open Q&A sessions are available 2-3 times each week.
“I am just writing to say a HUGE thanks to Jeff. I had a 10 min chat with him earlier this week, and he directed me to the resource (e.g. Figure it out website) that solved all statistical issues that I was having. Jeff is absolutely amazing, because he asked all the right questions, quickly got to the point of my problem, and helped with recommending just the right source!!! I am so grateful, and looking very forward to collaborate in a future.”
– Irina Patwardhan
Statistically Speaking Ask-A-Mentor Forum
Got a burning question that just can’t wait for the Q&A session? Never fear, the private forum is at your fingertips.
Ask any question related to your research, data analysis, or statistics with the complete confidence that your posts won’t show up in Google searches or forwarded in an email chain around your department.
This is private, confidential community where you can ask anything about statistics, without fear. (You can even cloak your identity to remain 100% anonymous, if you so choose.)
“I love the breadth of topics. There is something for everyone from advanced generalized linear mixed models to testing the assumptions of common statistical tests. Despite my many years in research, I learn something new from each session I attend.”
– S.Z., Statistically Speaking member
What Other Options Do You Have?
If you were to hire a statistical consultant to analyze your data, it could run you thousands of dollars. And next time around, you’d be in the same situation — with a pile of data and no idea how to analyze it.
You could ask a colleague — if there is one who can help! Or try to piece together an answer from an informal online group… but sometimes you don’t get the answer, and sometimes you get multiple answers — all of which conflict with each other.
If you were to try to figure it all out on your own, the time investment and your lack of confidence in your analysis might prevent you from making the progress toward publication you want and need.
So what’s better?
Statistically Speaking…designed for you — the researcher without a statistical consulting budget or a degree in statistics.
We empower smart researchers like you in your professional development, giving you the statistical skills and confidence you need — without the huge price tag.
By offering this support in a group environment, we can reduce the cost and increase the accessibility.

“If you are no longer in school, do not work full time in research, but you must implement tools that come from the researchers, [Statistically Speaking] keeps you up to date with methodologies… I have been able to take ideas/techniques picked up through [the membership site] that are generally not used in my field and apply them to solve problems.”
– Martin Watts, Statistically Speaking member
Building Real Skills
We all tend to think of “Statistical Analysis” as one big skill, but it’s not. There are four stages of statistical skill:
Biggest Statistical Obstacles For Researchers
These are the three most common problems that we hear from researchers in regard to their data analysis:
No One to Ask
There’s no one to ask within your institution…
Or the people who are there make it very difficult to admit you aren’t 100 percent sure about analyzing your data…
Or you ask multiple people and get conflicting results.
You want to get this right, but asking that one colleague comes with a high price tag, so you’d rather figure out a way that doesn’t involve going to the Know-It-All.
Don’t Know What You Don’t Know
If you’re working on your dissertation, or you’re coming back to quantitative research after some time away, it can be difficult to translate classes in statistics into real-world data analysis… or to get caught up in the “new” trends that you’re expected to have mastered.
All or Nothing
Either you have to puzzle all this out on your own, or you hire a consultant to take the whole thing off your hands. But if you pass off your analysis to someone else, you never learn, so the next time you need to interpret — or defend — your results, you’re in the same boat. So you’re left having to choose “all or nothing,” and neither one feels quite right.
Want to know how to banish these three obstacles?
You got it… Statistically Speaking!
“I’ve been a member since Feb 2016, and since then I have felt the constant reassurance of having you all at my back! Really, what a tremendous service you provide… …I revisited those lessons many times and learned so much from your regular newsletters and webinars. I’m a scientist at a federal lab where we don’t have a statistical consulting group, so just knowing you were there was huge for me! I thank Karen and all of you for everything you do to improve statistical approaches, confidence, and outcomes for analyzers who are not statisticians. You truly get us!”
– Hilary Neckles, Statistically Speaking member

“Membership in TAF is worth every penny to me as I’m a recently graduated biostatistician, but I don’t work with any other statisticians and so effectively have no one to ask questions of. The researchers I work with seem to think I should be an encyclopedia of stats knowledge – so being able to ask questions here is invaluable. Thanks again.”
– Andrew C., Statistically Speaking member

Meet Your Team
Karen Grace-Martin has a superpower: explaining complex statistics in a way that makes you say, “oh, I finally get it!” That is why she created Statistically Speaking, so that you could have that light bulb moment.
Karen presents many of the Stat’s Amore trainings within the membership and is on the forums everyday helping members with missing data, mixed models, logistic regression, interpreting regression parameters, and much more.
For Jeff Meyer, being an effective stats mentor takes more than just a knowledgeable and logical approach to analyzing data. You have to also enjoy working with people – and most importantly, care about their success.
Jeff is the go-to resource for Statistically Speaking members working with Stata and MPlus. He’s also well-versed in confidence intervals and effect sizes. Jeff’s loves to chat about multivariate, logistic, mixed models, truncated, censored, Poisson, and negative binomial regression, or anything latent variable—SEM, latent class analysis, factor analysis, latent growth curves, etc
Kim Love has more than a decade of professional and academic experience in the fields of regression and linear models, categorical data, generalized linear models, mixed effects models, nonlinear models, repeated measures, and experimental design.
While she enjoys working with all clients, Kim particularly enjoys working with those who feel they have a less-than-perfect relationship with statistics. Her goal is to spread an appreciation of statistics across many fields of study, starting by making it understandable to those who interact with it.
Clark Kogan is an experienced statistical scientist and owner of StatsCraft LLC, holding a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Montana. He currently serves as an adjunct faculty at Washington State University. His consulting specialties include Bayesian models, generalized linear mixed models, research design, and R programming, with a proven track record in various research contexts.
As a consultant and mentor, Dr. Kogan values a balance between insights derived from data and expert knowledge that emerges from collaborative discussions surrounding the data. He remains committed to guiding every project towards meaningful and impactful outcomes.
